This journey begins with six nights in one of Africa’s greatest safari destinations — Botswana’s Okavango Delta — before shifting to four nights of island luxury in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago. The Okavango Delta

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Okavango Delta is one of the most extraordinary wilderness sanctuaries in the world. Seasonal floodwaters transform the arid Kalahari into a vast inland delta of lagoons, channels and islands, creating a remarkable ecosystem that supports exceptional game viewing year-round.

The Delta’s diversity of habitats is what makes it so rewarding — from open floodplains and permanent channels to wooded islands and game-rich grasslands. Wildlife sightings can include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, African wild dog and superb birdlife.

Camp One: Wilderness Chitabe

Your safari begins at Wilderness Chitabe, one of Botswana’s most respected luxury camps, located in a wildlife-rich area where several habitats meet. This ecological diversity creates some of the most rewarding game-viewing in the Delta.

Eight elevated Meru-style tents are connected by raised walkways, while expert guiding, day and night drives, and guided walks create a wonderfully immersive safari experience. Chitabe is especially well known for predators and African wild dog sightings.

Camp Two: Wilderness Vumbura Plains

Benguerra Island

The final stage of the journey takes you to Benguerra Island, the second-largest island in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago. This tropical paradise is defined by long white beaches, swaying palms, coral reefs and warm turquoise waters.

The island is part of a protected marine national park and is known for its rich sea life, exceptional snorkelling and diving, and sightings of rare dugongs. Benguerra offers the perfect contrast to safari — slower, softer and beautifully restorative.

Beach Retreat: Azura Benguerra Island

Your beach stay is at Azura Benguerra Island, one of Mozambique’s finest luxury eco-boutique retreats. Built with the local community, Azura combines understated island elegance with a deeply private, barefoot atmosphere.

Travel Logistics

This itinerary flows smoothly between Botswana and Mozambique. The safari begins in Maun, the primary gateway to the Okavango Delta, where a scheduled charter connects you to Wilderness Chitabe. Inter-camp charter flights then link Chitabe and Vumbura Plains efficiently within the Delta.

From the Delta, the journey continues back through Maun, then onward via Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo) before connecting to Vilanculos in Mozambique. Daily flights between Maun and Johannesburg, and daily flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos, make this a practical and well-paced bush-and-beach itinerary. From Vilanculos, Azura arranges the final scenic air transfer to Benguerra Island. The journey concludes with a return helicopter or charter transfer from the island back to Vilanculos.
