This itinerary combines one of Kenya’s most iconic safari landscapes with one of its most atmospheric coastal escapes. It begins in the Masai Mara, where you spend four nights at Governors’ Camp enjoying classic game viewing in one of East Africa’s best-known reserves, before continuing to Manda Island for four nights of barefoot island relaxation at Manda Bay Lodge.

The Masai Mara National Reserve

One of Africa’s great safari destinations, the Masai Mara National Reserve is famed for its sweeping grasslands, excellent big-game viewing and the annual drama of the Great Migration. From roughly July to September, vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope move north from Tanzania’s Serengeti, followed by lion, hyena and cheetah.

Even beyond migration season, the Mara offers rewarding year-round wildlife viewing, with healthy populations of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, crocodile, hippo and a wide variety of resident predators and plains game.

Camp One: Governors’ Camp

The safari begins with four nights at Governors’ Camp, one of the Masai Mara’s most established and best-known tented camps. Located inside the reserve itself, the camp sits in riverine forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, with wildlife often close by and excellent access to the surrounding plains.

Manda Island & the Lamu Archipelago

From the Masai Mara, the journey continues to Kenya’s coast and the Lamu Archipelago, where Manda Island offers a very different mood and landscape. Here the pace slows, the setting softens and the focus shifts from game drives to white-sand beaches, warm ocean water and laid-back island life.

This part of Kenya is known for its atmospheric coastal culture, dhow sailing traditions, marine activities and a quieter, more characterful style of beach stay than the country’s larger mainland resorts.

Camp Two: Manda Bay Lodge

The second half of the itinerary is spent at Manda Bay Lodge, a relaxed and stylish beach retreat on the northern edge of Manda Island. Set on a beautiful stretch of pearlescent white sand and surrounded by coconut palms and coral gardens, it offers a lovely barefoot-luxury contrast to the safari portion of the trip.

Day-by-Day Journey

The itinerary begins in Nairobi, where you are met and privately transferred from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Wilson Airport. From there, a scheduled Governors Aviation charter flight takes you into the Masai Mara, where you spend four nights at Governors’ Camp.

During your time in the Mara, daily safari activities are included, with game drives through one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife regions. One day includes a Governors Balloon Safaris hot air balloon safari, adding a memorable aerial perspective over the plains.

On day five, you fly by scheduled charter back to Wilson Airport and connect onward by Safarilink flight to Manda Bay Lodge. You then spend four nights on Manda Island enjoying beach time, lodge activities and the slower rhythm of the Kenyan coast.

On the final day, you return by charter flight to Wilson Airport and continue by private transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for onward travel.
