  • Destinations: Lower Zambezi & South Luangwa National Park
  • Camps: Old Mondoro, Nsefu Camp & Mwamba Bush Camp
  • Best For: Wildlife photographers, safari purists, repeat Africa travellers and guests seeking exceptional guiding

This itinerary combines three outstanding camps across two of Zambia’s most iconic safari regions. It begins in the Lower Zambezi, where river, woodland and floodplain habitats create dynamic wildlife and photographic opportunities, before continuing to South Luangwa, widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest destinations for immersive safari experiences and remarkable predator viewing.

Lower Zambezi

Located along the Zambezi River on Zambia’s border with Zimbabwe, the Lower Zambezi is one of Africa’s most atmospheric safari destinations. The region is known for its rugged, undeveloped beauty, with broad floodplains, woodlands and river channels attracting elephants, buffalo, hippo, crocodiles and exceptional birdlife.

The variety of activities here — including game drives, bush walks, boat safaris and canoeing — makes it especially rewarding for photographers who want both classic wildlife sightings and a more layered safari experience.

Camp One: Old Mondoro

Your safari begins at Old Mondoro, one of the most intimate camps in the Lower Zambezi National Park. Owned and operated by Chiawa Safaris, the camp has just four reed-and-canvas chalets, creating a private and deeply authentic bush atmosphere.

Each chalet has hot water, power, an outdoor bath and shower, and a spacious private veranda that looks out onto the surrounding wilderness. Old Mondoro is especially well known for its leopard sightings, which are among the most consistent in Africa during the dry season.

  • 4 Nights
  • Day and night game drives
  • Boat trips and canoeing
  • Guided bush walks
  • Excellent leopard photography potential

Included: Accommodation, meals, beverages, daily laundry, transfers between the airstrip and camp, and professionally guided activities including game drives, walks, boat trips and angling.

South Luangwa National Park

South Luangwa is one of Africa’s great safari destinations and is particularly celebrated for its walking safaris, remarkable guiding and rich wildlife concentrations. Bordering the Luangwa River, the park combines oxbow lagoons, woodland and open riverine habitat that support elephant, hippo, lion, leopard and prolific birdlife.

It is also one of Zambia’s most rewarding safari regions for photographers, thanks to the quality of sightings, low visitor density and authentic bush atmosphere.

Camp Two: Nsefu Camp

The second stage of the safari takes you to Nsefu Camp, one of South Luangwa’s most historic and characterful properties. Located in the exclusive Nsefu sector on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River, the camp has long been recognised as being in one of the park’s finest wildlife areas.

Just six original rondavels host a maximum of twelve guests, creating an intimate and classic safari feel. Each room opens onto arguably one of the best views in South Luangwa, with elephants often crossing the river directly in front of camp.

  • 3 Nights
  • Historic safari camp in the exclusive Nsefu sector
  • Classic riverfront wildlife viewing
  • Intimate camp with just six rooms

Included: Full board, game viewing activities, laundry, bar, airport transfers and meet-and-greet services at Lusaka and Mfuwe Airports.

Camp Three: Mwamba Bush Camp

Your safari concludes at Mwamba Bush Camp, a small and deeply atmospheric bush camp set along the dry Mwamba riverbed. With just four chalets made from reed, thatch and other natural materials, the camp feels wonderfully quiet, intimate and immersed in its surroundings.

Shaded verandas, outdoor bathrooms and solar-powered comforts maintain the simplicity of the bush experience while still feeling stylish and thoughtful. One of Mwamba’s standout features is its famous “Last Waterhole Hide”, a dream location for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts.

  • 3 Nights
  • Intimate bush camp with just four chalets
  • Excellent hide photography opportunities
  • Relaxed, authentic South Luangwa atmosphere

Photographer’s highlight: The Last Waterhole Hide is one of the camp’s signature experiences and offers exceptional close-up opportunities for observing and photographing wildlife in natural light.
